Leaders, Followers, & Other Kids of Seedy Characters

So, years ago at my old church, a friend of mine and I had a joke about "us" and the "cheerleaders" - the group of young mom's that we were in fellowship with. Our own views of ourselves and our insecurities framed how we perceived our fellow sisters. We were the outsiders, you know, flashback to high school - aaahhhh! They were the popular, cool girls, with the cute clothes...the cheerleaders.

I remember this because we women are sometimes strange about how we position ourselves when faced with other women we are in community with...and we are trying to build community here! We see "superstar" Christian women who we think have got it together, "leaders" who are so far ahead we can never catch up, or "cheerleaders" we can never compete with socially. Of course, this "us" and "them" mentality defeats our chances at truly connecting and building relationships.

We are all leaders and followers in some capacity. Some of us look more put together; some of us let it hangout a little more! But we are all seeds...
...seeds that all need to germinate to grow {the same salvation for all}
...seeds that get nourished by soil, sun, and water {Father, Son, and Holy Spirit}
...seeds that lie dormant some seasons
...seeds that bloom in other seasons
...seeds that need to put down roots
...seeds that need to stretch out branches
...seeds that bear different, yet valuable, fruit
...seeds that turn into plants that need to be pruned
...seeds that turn into plants that have roots intertwined with others to stand up to the forces of nature

So, leaders, followers, cheerleaders, or outsiders,...we are all His seeds. Let us cast aside our husks {judgment, fears, defenses} and bloom together!

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. 1 John 4:18
