Taking Refuge in Him

"Mommy, can you put this in your purse and hold it for me"? How many times have we moms heard this? I ventured from Kingston to West Town Mall w/my two kids today for a long awaited trip to Build-A-Bear. They each had a gift card to use, so today was the day we chose to go. As we marched through the mall, my daughter, Emma, got tired of holding her giftcard in her hand, so she asked me to put it in my purse(sound familiar?). So, I of course, did. She handed me that card and never looked back. Emma didn't ask over and over if I had her card, no...she trusted me. She knew I would guard that giftcard to Build-A-Bear with all my strength...for her.

Why do I not do the same thing, I ask myself? Why do I not, at all times, hand over that "thing" that I carry, as small as it may be, to the Lord? He certainly tells me too, right? In Psalm 37:39-40 it says..."The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him."
So, that means what? Read over those two verses again. I see words like...salvation, stronghold, helps, delivers, saves and last but not least...because. Because(due to the fact that) we CAN take refuge in HIM.
Refuge, help, those words make me want to take a deep breath and let go of whatever that "thing" is . How about you?

My dear beloved sister, let each one of use do what He tells us. Let us each take refuge in Him. Let us trust, beyond a shadow of a doubt! Let us hold on unswervingly, while clinging to the Truth! It is ours to have.

So, how did the trip to the mall end? Well, let's just say I have one happy little girl. Emma now has a new bear...Snowflake Littlefield.
