Help me help You...

...I am not sure if it is sacrilegious to ask God this.  I hope not, if it is done on our knees, not a la Jerry McGuire shouted at the intended recipient of the query!  But this is my HEART'S CRY at the moment.  A while ago I was reading the blog of this girl who left everything she knew in Tennessee and went a lived in Uganda at the ripe old age of 20 and adopted a houseful of orphans.  One of her posts suggested a sermon series by David Platt.  With tears in my eyes I listened to the sermons, printed off the sermon notes, listened again, read the church website where this man was a pastor and felt "yes, I agree!"  Urgently, passionately, we must DO SOMETHING!  We the church.  We America.  We me.  Must. Do. Something.  Something that shows I am His.  Totally.  With abandon.  Of course, then policing starts in my mind: don't try be a hero, don't get your kicks out of good deeds, what makes you so special...
But, really, I cannot let it rest. I cannot snuggle down into my sweet family and sweet salvation and sweet slippers (okay, I don't have slippers, but I want some!).  To whom much is given much is expected. Well, there is now a book, a movement, a Bible study, no doubt there will be DVD's, coffee table books, and t-shirts as we try to absorb and push the idea that we must be radical for Christ.  Changing the world. Loving His people.  Giving sacrificially.  Being a holy people.  Maybe it will be the next "Purpose Driven Life" and the media will pick up on it.  Maybe this guy will make it to the cover of TIME, maybe he'll get to meet the President.  Maybe we'll all read the book and go, "WOW!"
Some of me is a little pessimistic.  Like January resolutions that fade by Febuary.  Can we Christians here live all-out for Him like those who faced the lions in the Colosseum?  Will we be ready to ship wreck ourselves for His sake?  Can we live here like we really care about those out there?
So you see why I pray: Help Me Help You.  I want to REALLY live for Him, but sometimes that is in the care of my children and husband and church.  But I am pretty sure that's not all...watch this space for my journey.  What will yours be?

Galatians 6:9

9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

  1. AWESOME! I am with you girl!!!! I love our blog!! You guys have done an amazing job! I just don't know why others haven't wanted to make comments or become part of the blog. I long that we all seek the Lord and use our gifts to better the Kingdom and further the gospel in our church! I wish that we could become a RADICAL people and do RADICAL things for the gospel and each other! If we can't serve each other, than how in the world will we serve the lost? There are only a handful of woman who receive the blog but that handful could make much change. I loved Jim's sermon this Sunday, although cutting to my core, it pushed me to ask some tough questions in my own life. I pray that we all become willing to do what God desire's of Christ Covenant.
Sorry ladies, I'm such a spit-fire sometimes. I just love God and long for us to grow closer together.
    Love, Joy
